Rehearsal dinner

In the cardón forest a few minutes south of La Ventana

Our favourite restaurant in La Ventana: an orange adobe in the cactus forest, murals on the walls, a dark little bar, and food and cocktails that remind us of Mexico City. We are taking it over for the rehearsal dinner on the Friday — more to come.

  • Pólvora at sunset: an orange adobe building among cardón cacti
  • A mural of a bull and scorpions behind a cardón
  • A martini in a coupe at the bar
  • The bar by lamplight, cups stacked on the espresso machine

Around the wedding

Between the parties

Mornings are calm and the wind comes up around eleven, so boats go early and wind sports go after lunch. The water is about 21°C in March — bring a wetsuit if you want to stay in. Boat trips have minimums and fill up, so book ahead.

A downwinder with us

With us

We will be downwinding at some point — kite or wing from the hot springs or El Sargento back down to La Ventana, six to eight kilometres with the wind behind you. The wind fills in late morning and blows 15–25 knots. A shuttle takes you and your gear to the start.

Pangas to Isla Cerralvo

With us

We are planning to hire pangas for a morning of snorkelling with the sea lions at the island across the bay, or fishing — yellowtail off its north end in March. Boats go out at seven while the water is flat. Tell us if you want a seat.

Whales

Humpbacks pass through the Cerralvo channel in March, a morning by boat from the beach. Gray whales calve at Magdalena Bay, three hours west — a long day, and the very end of their season. Whale sharks are still in La Paz bay.

Hot springs on the beach

At Agua Caliente, north of El Sargento, hot water seeps up through the sand: bring a shovel, dig yourself a pool as the tide falls, and sit in it looking at the sea.

Trails and the Thursday market

Seventy-odd mountain-bike and walking trails through the cactus behind town, and a market between La Ventana and El Sargento on Thursday mornings — catch it if you land early.

At the hotel

Kayaks and paddleboards for anyone, and the hotel can set up massages and yoga.
