SJDLos Cabos (San José del Cabo)
Most flights190 km to the hotel · about two and a quarter hours
Where most of us will land: nonstops from thirty-odd US and Canadian cities, and usually the cheaper fare. About two and a quarter hours by road.
LAPLa Paz
55 km to the hotel · about an hour
Only an hour away, but from the US only Los Angeles flies there nonstop — worth it from LA or from inside Mexico.
Your route
Three letters is all it takes. You get the real journey time, what the fare looks like right now, and searches with the dates already in them.
From the airport to the venue
- From Los Cabos
- 190 km · about two and a quarter hours
- From La Paz
- 55 km · about an hour
From Los Cabos it is about two and a quarter hours north; from La Paz, 45 minutes to an hour over the hills on Highway 286 — then left at the El Sargento turn. Paved all the way. Book your ride before you fly: Uber and DiDi cannot pick up at either airport, and most airport taxis will not go this far. Vans are priced by the vehicle, not the seat, so if you land around the same time as other guests, share one — where a private car for one or two is the whole fare. Bring cash.
Or leave it to us: tick the car box on your reply, add your flight, and we will put you in a van with whoever lands near you — the manifest builds itself on the arrivals board.
Road Runner Shuttle
Eleven-seat vans: book a seat and share, or take the whole van. About $150 a van from La Paz and $235 from Los Cabos in cash, a little more by card.

El Sargento Shuttle
Samuel Lucero’s air-conditioned van, the longest-running licensed service in town. Cash, dollars fine; the price depends on how many of you there are.
La Perla de Salomé
A private shuttle run from La Ventana, with cold beers and water in the van for the drive.
Transportes La Ventana Tours
Private transport set up by people from the town.
Shuttle Transportation, Charter & Tours
Aurelio Estrada and Roberto Cañedo: airport runs, charters and tours.
Manny Tours
Airport transfers and day trips — La Paz, Los Cabos, Todos Santos, Magdalena Bay. Also on 612 127 0910.
Transporte Castro
A flat 2,600 pesos a vehicle for up to eight from La Paz. From Los Cabos, 4,500 pesos for up to four, or a shared seat for 1,000 if you can wait for it to fill.
Turispancho
A scheduled shared shuttle from Los Cabos airport at 2 and 4 pm, back at 9 and 11 am — about $50 a person. Check the 2027 times.
The Ventana View
La Ventana’s own guide: where to eat, kite and bike schools, the Saturday market, and a rideshare board for splitting airport runs with other travellers.
Hiring a car
Nobody rents cars in La Ventana itself, so collect one at the airport or have one delivered. Worth it if you want to see anything beyond the hotel: the town is spread along the beach, there are almost no taxis, and La Paz and the beaches to the south are 30 to 60 minutes away. Budget roughly $35–55 a day all-in for a small car in March, $80–110 for an SUV.
Seahorse Car Rental
A La Paz company that brings the car to the airport or to La Ventana, with the compulsory insurance already in the price. The one La Ventana regulars recommend.
Cactus Rent a Car
If you land in Los Cabos: insurance included in the quote and no deposit on your card.
- Mexican law requires third-party liability insurance, and no US credit card or car policy provides it. That is why a $7-a-day online price becomes $40 or more at the counter. Book a quote that already includes liability, collision and theft with no deductible, plus the 16% tax — and print it.
- Bring a physical credit card; debit cards are refused for the deposit. Turning down the company’s own damage cover makes that hold much bigger.
- Do not drive after dark. Cattle and donkeys wander onto unlit roads, and plenty of speed bumps are unmarked.
- Fuel is on the road between La Ventana and El Sargento, and at Los Planes. An attendant pumps: check it starts at zero, and tip a few pesos.
- An ordinary car is fine — the road is paved all the way. You only need four-wheel drive for the sand tracks.
- Say La Ventana, near El Sargento. Las Ventanas is a resort in Los Cabos, two hours the wrong way.

Entry requirements
Everyone flying into Mexico needs a valid passport, and most visitors are issued a tourist permit on arrival. Rules change — check the current requirements for your own nationality well before you book, not the week before you fly.
